Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) was established in the year 1960 as Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT). It was named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, a prominent freedom fighter, scholar, and the first Education Minister of independent India. In 2002, it was granted the status of a National Institute of Technology and renamed MANIT.
